Welcome to
Bishops Castle & Clun
in the Shropshire Hills |
 |
| Bishop's
Castle is a small market
town in South Shropshire. An area of outstanding natural beauty; it is much loved
by visitors who want to experience unspoilt countryside dappled with small villages
and hamlets. It's a place to get away to and enjoy the peace and tranquility that
is rapidly departing from other parts of England. There are no motorways and few
traffic lights; you'll be deafened by the silence broken only by the calls of
circling buzzards. Bishops Castle has some excellent accommodation both in and
out of town. |
 |
Clun is a smaller, quieter and more picturesque town with its ancient
packhorse bridge, the only river crossing, impressive ruined Norman castle
and romantic river. It offers more limited services while still being
a good place to eat, drink and shop. There are lively pubs, a brewery,
cafes, galleries and independent shops.
The towns and nearby villages host a series of festivals throughout the year
(see events list). |
Both towns are situated in the sparsely populated valleys
and uplands of Shropshire Hills and the Welsh border, and Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty. Public footpaths, stiled and way marked,
Bishop's Castle has been voted one of Britains Top Ten Market Towns in 2011 by Lonely Planet Magazine - more here

The Town Hall Project
An appeal has been launched for a major renovation of the Town Hall. Donations (small and large) are needed to allow us to apply to funders for the sums that are needed to bring the building into better use.
